China Denounces New EU Sanctions as Illegal, Vows to Defend Its Interests

China angry at EU: new sanctions illegal
Китай рішуче виступає проти нових санкцій ЄС, обіцяючи захистити свої інтереси.

Statement from China's Ministry of Commerce

According to Главком: China's Ministry of Commerce has issued a formal response to the latest round of restrictions imposed by the European Union on Chinese companies. Beijing declared Brussels' actions unlawful, arguing that placing Chinese legal entities on the sanctions list violates agreements made at the leadership level between China and the EU. Officials from the Ministry further stated that China will take all necessary measures to safeguard its national interests.

The EU's Latest Sanctions Package

In a recent development, the EU unveiled its 20th sanctions package, which demonstrates a high degree of alignment between Ukrainian proposals and the decisions of European partners. Approximately 70% of the measures in this package reflect input from the Ukrainian side. The updated sanctions list includes:

  • over 30 individuals from Russia's military-industrial complex;
  • propagandists and oligarchs;
  • around 60 companies involved in evading existing sanctions.

This situation highlights the growing friction between China and the European Union, a rift that could carry serious consequences for global trade and political dynamics. The EU's sanctions underscore its commitment to supporting Ukraine amid ongoing aggression, while China's response signals its determination to protect its economic interests on the world stage.
