Rights to pension for military children

According to ХВИЛЯ: Children of servicemen who have died or passed away are entitled to receive a pension in the case of loss of breadwinner according to the Law of Ukraine 'On pension provision for persons discharged from military service and some other persons'. This right applies to various categories of children and establishes specific amounts of payments.

Categories of children entitled to a pension

  • Children under 18 years old;
  • Children over 18 years old who are studying full-time, up to 23 years old;
  • Orphans up to 23 years old;
  • Persons with disabilities if the disability was established before reaching 18 years old.

The amounts of payments and additional benefits vary depending on the circumstances of the death of the breadwinner. For one child, the pension amounts to 70% of the monetary provision of the breadwinner if he died as a result of military duties. In the case where the breadwinner died, and there are two or more children, the pension amounts to 50% of the monetary provision for each child. If the breadwinner died as a result of an accident unrelated to military service, the pension for each child amounts to 30% of the monetary provision.

For family members of fallen defenders, an increase of 25% of the minimum subsistence level for non-working individuals is provided. If the total amount of the pension is less than 7,800 UAH, an additional targeted payment is provided. The amount of payments per child, if the pension is designated for two or more children, should amount to 6,100 UAH.

Thus, children of fallen defenders are entitled to financial support, which can significantly help in difficult times. The processing of pensions is an important step towards ensuring stability and assistance to families who have suffered losses. This support is part of the state’s social policy aimed at alleviating the lives of those who lost loved ones during military actions and ensuring a decent standard of living for children left without parents. It is important that all those entitled to these payments are aware of their opportunities and can receive the necessary assistance.
