Pensions increased from January 1: automatic payment increase
Автоматичне підвищення пенсій запрацює в Україні з 1 січня.

Changes to the Minimum Living Standard and Pensions in Ukraine

According to ХВИЛЯ: An increase in the official minimum living standard in Ukraine, effective January 1, 2026, has triggered an automatic rise in the minimum old-age pension and certain supplementary payments. This automatic recalculation, which does not require pensioners to apply to the Pension Fund, is designed to simplify the process for recipients. These adjustments are part of the government's ongoing efforts to support retirees amid economic pressures.

The minimum old-age pension has risen from 2,361 hryvnias to 2,595 hryvnias. Consequently, individuals whose primary pension was less than or equal to the previous threshold of 2,361 hryvnias will see their payments increase automatically. This group typically includes retirees who had periods of low earnings or who retired before 2018.

Supplementary Payments for Specific Pensioner Categories

The increase also applies to additional monthly supplements for the following groups:

  • War-disabled individuals;
  • Participants in the Chornobyl (Chernobyl) disaster cleanup;
  • Holders of the Certificate of a Combatant (UBD).

The supplement for combatants, which was approximately 590-600 hryvnias, will now exceed 600 hryvnias, representing an increase of roughly 100 hryvnias. No application to the Pension Fund is necessary to receive the higher amount, as the system performs the recalculation automatically.

This boost to pension payments aims to improve the financial situation of the most vulnerable segments of the population, particularly retirees receiving the lowest incomes. The automation of the recalculation process also reflects the state's attempt to streamline bureaucratic procedures and ensure timely support for those in need without requiring additional effort on their part.
