According to ХВИЛЯ: The Pension Fund of Ukraine (PFU) faces systemic and human errors that lead to underpayments for pensioners. These problems complicate the verification process for citizens entitled to receive a pension. The analysis by lawyers Andriy Dziis and Kateryna Holovko revealed five main risk areas regarding pension contributions that may threaten the financial stability of many Ukrainians.

Verification Mechanisms for Contributions

One way to check your contributions is through the electronic labor book, which allows verification of records after 2004. Thus, pensioners can access important information about their employment history and pension contributions. Additionally, the OK-5 certificate contains information about salaries since 2000, which can also be useful in verifying the correctness of contributions.

If an error is found in the contributions, pensioners should submit a written application to the Pension Fund of Ukraine. This will initiate the process of correcting errors and receiving underpayments. As Iryna Polyakova states,

'the pension system today resembles a 'Chinese script', which indicates the complexity in understanding the rules and procedures.'

To avoid underpayments and clarify their contributions, it is important for pensioners to be aware of the TOP-5 'black holes' where pensioners' money may disappear. Furthermore, there is a winning algorithm consisting of three steps to recalculation, which will help address issues in pension contributions. In the current situation, it is crucial to be informed and proactive in defending one’s rights to receive a pension.

This situation with underpayments to pensioners emphasizes the need for reforming the pension system in Ukraine, as existing problems may cause serious financial difficulties for many elderly people.
