Who Gets Higher Pension Payments in June? Ukrainian Retirees Get Answers
Ukraine’s Pension System Sees Targeted Adjustments in June 2023
According to ХВИЛЯ: While no across-the-board pension recalculation is scheduled for June 2023 in Ukraine, certain retirees will still see increased amounts and additional allowances. Funding for June payouts began on June 1. According to available data, pension spending in May reached 74.5 billion hryvnias, compared to 75.0 billion hryvnias in April. Additionally, May saw 3.3 billion hryvnias allocated for housing subsidies and benefits, 3.5 billion hryvnias for insurance payments (of which 2.1 billion hryvnias went to sick leave), and 10.9 billion hryvnias for social assistance-down from 28.5 billion hryvnias in April.
Extra Allowances for Specific Retiree Groups
Working pensioners who had accumulated at least 24 months of additional insurance coverage by April will be eligible for a recalculation. In June, these individuals will receive updated amounts along with back pay for April and May. Meanwhile, Ukrainians aged 70 to 74 are entitled to a monthly supplement of 300 hryvnias, those aged 75 to 79 receive 456 hryvnias, and retirees over 80 get 570 hryvnias. To qualify for this age-based bonus, the total pension must not exceed 10,340.35 hryvnias.
It is important to note that if a pensioner was born on the first day of the month, they receive the full supplement immediately. When moving into a higher age bracket, the difference between the two allowances is added-for example, someone turning 75 gets an extra 156 hryvnias (the gap between 456 and 300 hryvnias). Also, individuals with disabilities whose status is not permanent may temporarily lose their payments. Thus, in June, Ukraine’s pension system continues to disburse funds but with specific changes affecting certain retiree categories.
These pension system adjustments reflect the state’s efforts to align social benefits with economic conditions and the needs of different age groups among retirees.
Even without a general recalculation, targeted support for specific populations shows an attempt to maintain social stability. It is crucial that all retirees stay informed about their rights and any system changes that could impact their financial situation.
