Ukraine Launches 50-Year ID Cards for Senior Citizens

According to ХВИЛЯ: Ukraine has introduced a new policy issuing national ID cards valid for 50 years to its pensioners. The first recipients were residents of the Vinnytsia region, including those in Lypovets. This reform, enacted this year, is designed to simplify bureaucratic procedures for the elderly. This move is part of broader digitalization and administrative reforms in the country.

Updated Validity Periods and Key Benefits

Under the updated regulations, ID cards for individuals aged 18 to 60 are valid for 10 years, while those for youths aged 14 to 18 last for 4 years. For pensioners receiving the new cards, however, the document is effectively issued for life. As noted in a related video,

"Even if it's issued for 50 years after age 60, very few people live to 110"

- highlighting the practical convenience of this long-term format for older citizens.

The new system also allows for the simultaneous application for both a national ID card and a passport for international travel, which can be particularly advantageous for seniors. The standard application fee for an ID card is 618 hryvnias, while an expedited service costs 988 hryvnias.

"Can you imagine having to go and change it at 70 or 80-that's just not right,"

remarked the channel's author, emphasizing the importance of reducing administrative burdens on the elderly.

The introduction of 50-year ID cards for pensioners represents a significant step toward improving conditions for older people in Ukraine. This initiative aims to lessen bureaucratic hurdles and simplify document acquisition, which can positively impact retirees' quality of life. The option to apply for a passport concurrently also opens new possibilities for travel and mobility for senior citizens.
