Pensions may be terminated: under what grounds and how to restore payments

According to ХВИЛЯ: In Ukraine, the payment of pensions can be terminated by the decision of local departments of the Pension Fund or through the court in cases provided by law. The reasons for stopping payments can be varied, and it is important to know which of them are the most common.

Main reasons for pension termination

• Appointment of a pension based on false information.
• Pensioner’s permanent residence outside Ukraine.
• Death of the pensioner or recognition of him/her as missing.
• Failure to receive the assigned pension for six months.

One of the reasons for stopping pension payments is the appointment of the pension based on false information. This can happen if the pensioner provided incorrect data during the pension application process. Also, payments are suspended if the pensioner permanently resides outside Ukraine. In such cases, the pensioner loses the right to receive payments according to the law.

In addition, payments may be terminated in the event of the pensioner's death or his/her recognition as missing. Another reason for stopping the pension is the failure to receive the assigned pension for six months. If the pensioner does not apply for payments during this period, the Pension Fund authorities may decide to terminate payments. It is also important to note that physical identification of the pensioner is necessary for the continuation of payments.

If pension payments have been terminated, they can be restored by the decision of the territorial body of the Pension Fund. This is possible within 10 days after clarifying the circumstances that led to the termination of payments. The pensioner needs to contact the mentioned authority and provide the necessary documents for the restoration of payments.
