Ukraine and France Advance Political Dialogue on Security, Sanctions, and EU Integration
High-Level Meeting Between Ukraine and France
According to МЗС: Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine, Yevhen Perebyinis, met with Martin Bréon, the Secretary General of the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, who visited Ukraine for the first time. Their discussions focused on critical issues including the peace process, the security situation within Ukraine and the surrounding region, and the threats posed by Russia to European security.
Key Discussion Points
The meeting addressed several urgent topics:
- Strengthening sanctions against Russia;
- Ukraine’s immediate military aid requirements;
- Protection and restoration of vital infrastructure;
- Preparations for the upcoming heating season;
- Steps toward European integration and necessary reforms;
- Safeguarding the rights of national minorities in Ukraine;
- Ensuring the effective operation of anti-corruption institutions.
A significant outcome was the decision to continue an active political dialogue through both bilateral and multilateral channels. The second and third negotiation clusters have already been opened ahead of the meeting, with plans to launch the remaining clusters by the end of 2026. These initiatives highlight the commitment of both nations to deepen cooperation and address pressing challenges.
This meeting marks a pivotal moment in strengthening Ukraine-France relations, particularly against the backdrop of security threats stemming from Russia’s aggressive policies. Enhanced collaboration and ongoing dialogue are expected to bolster Ukraine’s capacity to respond to current challenges and contribute to regional stability. France’s engagement on these critical issues also provides Ukraine with valuable political backing on the international stage, an essential factor for Ukraine’s future European integration and reform efforts.
