US and Russia talks on Ukraine: what is being discussed and what possible agreements could be reached
According to Студия Руслана Бизяева: Against the backdrop of tense international contacts, the negotiation process regarding Ukraine between Russia and the US remains key. According to sources, Moscow puts forward clear demands: recognition of the annexation of Crimea and a special procedure for resolving the situation in Donbas. The official Kremlin states:
'First, Ukraine must withdraw its troops from Donbas, and then conduct a referendum, hold elections'. Official Kremlin
This position is categorically rejected by Kyiv. Russia, for its part, seeks de jure recognition of Crimea as Russian from Washington during the negotiations, which, in its opinion, could provoke a 'chain reaction' among other countries.
Mechanisms for future agreement guarantees
At the same time, mechanisms for guarantees of a future agreement are being discussed. Options for monitoring the ceasefire are being considered:
- with the participation of a British-French contingent (20,000 people)
- involving American private military companies
Financial pressure on Ukraine is also increasing. The head of the finance committee, Hetmancev, warns that the country risks being left without international funding, threatening the suspension of social payments. At the same time, a significant portion of the planned Eurocredits (60 billion out of 90 billion) is to go to the European defense industry for the production of weapons for Ukraine. The situation is complicated by regional crises, notably in the Middle East, where Iran has stated its unwillingness to limit its nuclear program, diverting US attention and resources.
