Transition to Winter Time in 2025: When and How Much Will the Time Change
Ukraine is preparing for the traditional clock change to winter time. On the night of Sunday, October 26, at 4:00 AM, Ukrainians will have to turn the clock back one hour.
Although there have been discussions for many years about abolishing the transition to summer and winter time, Ukraine remains faithful to the old order established back in 1996 when the Cabinet of Ministers adopted resolution No. 509, which stipulates changing the time twice a year - in spring and autumn.
Despite this, in July 2024, the Verkhovna Rada adopted bill No. 4201, which proposed to establish winter time as permanent. However, the law has not yet been signed by the President and has not come into effect, so Ukrainians will have to set the clocks back one more time, following the government resolution from 1996.
It is also important to note that 140 out of 200 countries in the world have already abandoned clock changes, which may serve as an example for Ukraine in the future.
Ukraine is preparing for the transition to winter time and has remained faithful to the traditional clock shift for a long time, however, the law regarding the abandonment of the time change is still in the process of adoption. The situation is difficult to assess, as there are still supporters and opponents of the transition to permanent time in Ukraine, and discussions on this topic continue.
