The Pension Fund is underpaying one thousand hryvnias: how to get a recalculation

Pension: The PFU did not consider the most favorable years
Як отримати перерахунок недоотриманої тисячі гривень від Пенсійного фонду?

Ukrainian pensioners can receive a higher pension

Many Ukrainian pensioners may be missing out on a significant part of their payments because the Pension Fund does not always consider the most favorable salary period when calculating it. However, by showing initiative, one can rectify the situation and increase their monthly income by 2000 hryvnias or more.

According to journalist Iryna Polyakova, the level of trust in the Pension Fund of Ukraine (PFU) remains low, and many pensioners feel social injustice both during the calculation of their pension and at the time of its indexing.

«It is unlikely that the level of trust among pensioners in the Pension Fund can be called infinitely high. Perhaps this is why many feel social injustice», — notes the video author.

How to rectify the situation

The key problem is that the PFU calculates pensions based on data about earnings from July 1, 2000. Meanwhile, the law allows for salary from any 60 consecutive months up to July 2000 to be considered. This can be more beneficial if the earnings during that period were higher compared to the average salary in the country.

The problem is that Fund employees do not always inform people about this possibility, causing pensioners to potentially lose money earned during their working years.

Real examples

The video provides two examples where the pension gap can exceed 2000 hryvnias per month due to an incorrectly chosen period for calculation.

Example #1: Pensioner Oleksiy saw his pension increase by over 2000 hryvnias after factoring in his high salary for a certain period.

Example #2: Another pensioner, Viktor, was supposed to see his pension increase by about 2000 hryvnias.

How to correct your pension calculation

  1. Request a copy of the calculation. Contact your local PFU office with a request for a copy of the protocol (order) regarding the calculation of your pension.
  2. Analyze the data. Along with a specialist or on your own, analyze your work history and find the 5-year period leading up to July 1, 2000, when your salary was highest.
  3. Gather references. Obtain references about your salary for the chosen period from the company where you worked or an archival institution if the company has been liquidated.
  4. Submit a request for recalculation. With the documents obtained, contact the Pension Fund with a request for pension recalculation based on the new data.

«Money does not flow under a lying stone in our state. So be attentive, take care of your money, and take care of yourself and your loved ones», — summarizes Iryna Polyakova.

Thus, personal initiative and attention to documents can become the key to receiving a fair pension earned over years of work.

Information has been submitted that many Ukrainian pensioners may not receive all payments due to errors in the Pension Fund's calculations. Journalist Iryna Polyakova provides advice on how to independently correct pension calculations and increase monthly income. Real examples show that choosing the correct period for calculation can significantly increase pensions. The author urges pensioners to be attentive and take care of their financial interests.
