Today, August 25, the outstanding Czech tennis player Petra Kvitova played her last match in professional tennis. In the first round of the US Open, she lost to Frenchwoman Diane Parry with a score of 1:6, 0:6. This marks the end of a great athlete's career, who returned to the game this year after giving birth to her son in 2024.

Petra Kvitova won 31 singles titles and triumphed twice at Wimbledon. She was also a bronze medalist at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and the world’s number two in the WTA rankings.

The successful performance of Ukrainian athletes at the European Youth Olympic Festival was highlighted by a 10th place finish in the overall medal standings, winning 5 gold, 8 silver, and 10 bronze medals. This is the second-best result in the history of Ukraine's participation in this festival, with more medals won by Ukrainians only in 2019.
