The Loss of Oleg Shabalin

According to МВС: On September 22, 2023, border guard Oleg Shabalin lost his life while defending the Donetsk region. Having served in the State Border Guard Service since 2002, Oleg brought extensive combat experience from his participation in both the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) and the Joint Forces Operation (JFO). From the outset of the full-scale invasion, he stood on the front lines, safeguarding Ukraine's northern borders.

On the day he died, Ukrainian defenders successfully destroyed two enemy tanks and three armored vehicles, repelling the invading infantry. Oleg was fatally wounded amid a fierce assault and intense artillery and tank fire targeting their positions. His acts of bravery and sacrifice are recorded in the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ Book of Remembrance. Additionally, his story is preserved on an online memorial platform dedicated to fallen defenders, offering a place to honor his memory.
