The incident occurred while the aircraft was taxiing on the tarmac at Guiyang Airport. Flight crew quickly responded and extinguished the flames, preventing further spread. No injuries were reported among passengers or crew, and the aircraft sustained only minor damage. Power banks, which often contain lithium-ion or lithium-polymer batteries, have been increasingly recognized as a fire hazard due to the risk of thermal runaway.

This event happened shortly after a British Airways flight made an emergency landing following a portable charger fire at an altitude of approximately 9,100 meters. In response, the UK aviation regulator issued a warning about the growing danger posed by power banks, which are becoming a more frequent cause of serious aviation incidents. Travel companies have also expressed concern, noting that transporting such devices is risky because lithium batteries can spontaneously ignite.

In another case, a Ryanair flight FR1879 traveling from Thessaloniki to Memmingen experienced an engine fragment detachment at around 6,100 meters. The debris punctured a window, resulting in one passenger suffering burns who was later taken to hospital. Preliminary reports suggest the cause may have been a foreign object entering the engine. Ryanair emphasized that the Boeing 737 remains among the world's safest aircraft.

'At first, I thought the plane was on fire from the outside. But when I looked up, I saw flames shooting out from the overhead luggage rack,' recalled one passenger.

Video footage from the scene shows an airline employee opening an overhead bin already engulfed in flames. Airport fire services rapidly arrived, and all passengers evacuated the aircraft safely.
