According to Рубрика — Суспільство: On September 25th, memorandums were signed in Bucha to establish five new kitchen factories in Vinnytsia, Vyshneve, Sheptytsky, Lebedyn, and Zaporizhzhia. Selected by Ukraine’s Ministry of Infrastructure with backing from the European Investment Bank, these projects aim to supply meals to approximately 181 educational institutions, including schools and kindergartens. This initiative is set to enhance the quality of child nutrition, particularly benefiting rural communities.

Event Participants and Significance of the Initiative

Representatives from regions such as Mykolaiv, Poltava, Odesa, Rivne, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Ternopil joined the event. The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine actively supports upgrading school infrastructure, especially food preparation facilities, as part of a broader school meal reform. Ukraine’s first kitchen factory was built in Bucha, Kyiv region, thanks to American philanthropist and entrepreneur Howard Buffett. His foundation covers all hot meal costs for children in three communities during the first year.

The expansion of the kitchen factory network involves several critical steps:

• Identifying which educational institutions will receive food services;
• Calculating required production capacities;
• Organizing logistics and modernizing school food units.

"I am pleased to see more communities adopting the kitchen factory model. Today, five communities are launching their own projects, while others are exploring opportunities to create similar facilities. This approach allows us to scale the school meal reform and provide access to nutritious, balanced lunches for a growing number of children regardless of their location," said Andriy Butenko.

Introducing new kitchen factories marks a vital step in reforming Ukraine’s educational nutrition system, with the potential to significantly improve children’s health and wellbeing.
