The increase in public transport fares in Kyiv has been postponed
In Kyiv, a final decision on the increase of public transport fares has not yet been made. Although the new tariffs were previously planned to be introduced starting July 15, the approval process for the relevant order is still ongoing. This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing the Department of Transport Infrastructure of Kyiv City State Administration (KMDA).
Postponement of the fare increase in Kyiv: what we know
KMDA explained that the establishment of new tariffs goes through several stages of approval and depends not only on the relevant transport department.
According to city authorities, the Department of Economy and Investments has already determined the economically justified cost of one trip at the level of 30 hryvnias.
This figure was calculated based on actual expenses of municipal transport enterprises for the year 2025. Calculations took into account the increase in costs for:
- wages;
- electricity;
- fuel and lubricants;
- other components of transportation costs.
KMDA also noted that the tariffs proposed by municipal enterprises were even higher than the calculated 30 hryvnias.
When the fare in Kyiv may change
Currently, the draft order is still undergoing all necessary approvals, so there is no specific date for the introduction of new tariffs.
The Department of Transport Infrastructure emphasized that after the document is signed, it will be published on the Official Portal of Kyiv. Moreover, residents of the capital will be additionally informed through official information resources and the city's social media pages.
At the same time, KMDA's press service clarified that the project document is being developed by the Department of Economy and Investments. As of now, the project is undergoing all legally required approval procedures.
Earlier, city authorities reported that the economically justified tariff for 2026 is 64.60 UAH for the metro and 44.14 UAH for surface transport. However, these amounts are calculated estimates and do not mean automatic establishment of such tariffs for passengers.
It is worth noting that in the Darnytskyi district of Kyiv, emergency rescue work has been completed at the site of a strike on a 16-story residential building. As a result of the Russian attack on July 2, 31 people were killed, and 102 others were injured.
