Ukraine Faces 76 Russian Strikes on Energy Infrastructure Despite Announced Ceasefire, Says Zelensky

Russian attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure
Незважаючи на оголошене перемир’я, країна страждає від численних атак на свою енергетичну систему, повідомляє президент.

Russian Strikes Target Ukraine's Energy Sector After Ceasefire Declaration

According to ХВИЛЯ: Following the announcement of an energy ceasefire by U.S. President Donald Trump on October 11, Russia launched numerous attacks against Ukraine's energy facilities and infrastructure. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that these assaults caused significant damage, resulting in casualties and many injuries. Since the ceasefire declaration, Russia has carried out 76 deliberate attacks on Ukraine’s energy sector, including a strike on the Kharkiv thermal power plant just hours after the truce was announced.

In the past week alone, Russia unleashed nearly 2,700 strike drones, 1,700 aerial bombs, and 66 mostly ballistic missiles across Ukraine. Nighttime attacks on substations in the Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi, and Odesa regions left tens of thousands of families without electricity. Two fatalities and 12 wounded individuals, including two children, were reported due to strikes on residential buildings. Additionally, a Russian strike hit an agricultural enterprise in Volyn early in the morning.

Fuel Deal Between Washington and Moscow Raises Concerns

The U.S. government reached an agreement with Moscow to supply diesel fuel, with President Trump issuing a directive to exempt Russia from newly imposed Congressional sanctions. Secretary of State Marco Rubio explained that Trump seeks a 60-day period to evaluate the global economic impact of these sanctions.

“America must see that Russia is not taking reciprocal steps in response to the lifting of sanctions or the agreement. On the contrary, every sign of potential profit is interpreted by them as confirmation that betting on war is effective and that they can continue fighting.”

Volodymyr Zelensky

President Zelensky emphasized that the ongoing war is driven by Russia’s stance, not by Ukraine’s rightful defense. He stressed the importance of applying pressure on Russia to create any real opportunity for peace.

These developments highlight the critical situation in Ukraine, where energy infrastructure remains a prime target despite the declared ceasefire. The cooperation between the U.S. and Russia regarding sanctions and fuel deliveries raises serious concerns in Kyiv. Zelensky insists that sustained pressure on Russia is essential to advancing peace efforts. Continued attacks demonstrate that the conflict remains intense, and diplomatic initiatives risk being undermined if Russia persists with its aggressive actions.

As the situation escalates, President Zelensky has reiterated Ukraine's commitment to uphold the energy ceasefire, despite ongoing Russian violations. His statements highlight the stark contrast between Ukraine's intentions and Russia's aggressive actions.
