South Korean Marine Conquers Hoverla and Petros Without an Arm

The Story of Lee Byung Hoon

He climbed Hoverla and Petros and also overcame a route to Lake Nesamovite. Lee Byung Hoon joined the International Legion as a volunteer to defend Ukraine, where he sustained injuries during the war.

After treatment, Lee Byung Hoon decided to stay in Ukraine. He currently resides in Ivano-Frankivsk, where he actively joined the Ukrainian amputee football team. Participation in the hike became an important milestone in his life after a severe injury, as it symbolizes his resilience and desire to continue living a full life.

International Legion and Its Role

The International Legion of Territorial Defense of Ukraine was formed in 2022 with foreigners who wanted to support Ukraine. It is noteworthy that in February 2026, these international legions were integrated into the assault units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Currently, volunteers from 75 countries serve in the Ground Forces, and on average, about 600 foreigners sign contracts each month.

The story of Lee Byung Hoon reflects not only a personal struggle but also a broader picture of international support for Ukraine during the war. The participation of foreigners in the defense of the country emphasizes the global nature of the conflict and the importance of unity in the fight against the aggressor.
