Over 8.6 Million Hryvnias in Fines Imposed on Championcasino and SlotCity by PlayCity
Penalties for Gambling Operators in Ukraine
According to Главком: Ukraine's state gambling regulator, PlayCity, has fined Limon LLC-better known as Championcasino-more than 4.3 million hryvnias. The penalties stem from violations involving third-party fund settlements and the use of an online system without mandatory inspection. An audit revealed that the company committed these infractions, leading to the financial sanctions.
'This concerns Championcasino. The inspection found that the company allowed transactions using third-party funds. Additionally, the operator used an online casino system without the required inspection.' Gennadiy Novikov, Head of the State Agency for Gambling and Lottery Business Control in Ukraine (PlayCity)
Novikov also stressed the importance of systematic market oversight: 'Systematic control of the gambling market is crucial. That is why PlayCity conducts planned inspections of operators, initiates unannounced audits, records violations, and applies sanctions in accordance with the law.'
Additional Fines and Strategy Against Gambling Addiction
Separately, the Commission for the Regulation of Gambling and Lotteries fined All City Games, the company behind the online casino SlotCity, 4,323,500 hryvnias. Meanwhile, Ukraine's Ministry of Digital Transformation has developed a national Strategy to Combat Gambling Addiction, recognizing ludomania as a threat to national security.
These fines are part of broader efforts by Ukrainian authorities to regulate the gambling market, which gained urgency after the country legalized the industry. Enhanced oversight and penalties for violators help create a more transparent and responsible environment for players. At the same time, the development of a gambling addiction strategy underscores the seriousness of the issue and the state's commitment to protecting citizens from the harmful effects of gambling.
