Ukraine Announces Hourly Power Cuts for January 21, 2026

According to Главком: Ukraine will implement scheduled hourly electricity blackouts on January 21, 2026. This measure is a direct result of extensive damage to the nation's energy infrastructure from Russian missile and drone attacks. The power limitation schedules will specifically affect industrial consumers, disrupting operations at numerous enterprises. This situation highlights the ongoing strain on Ukraine's critical services more than three years after the full-scale invasion began.

DTEK CEO Maksym Tymchenko stated that the coming winter will be the most difficult since the start of the full-scale invasion, underscoring the severity of the energy system's condition. The Ukrainian power grid is experiencing a shortage of backup supply systems, complicating efforts to provide electricity to both the population and industry.

Representatives of Ukrenergo noted that the situation in the energy system remains fluid and urged all consumers to conserve power whenever possible.

These measures are deemed necessary to preserve the stability of the power supply amid the severe challenges the country faces.

The Critical Need for Energy Conservation

The implementation of scheduled power outages in Ukraine points to the profound challenges the nation continues to endure during the war. Restoring and stabilizing the energy infrastructure remains a top priority for the government and energy companies, as disruptions affect not only the population but the entire economy.

Consumers are strongly advised to be mindful of their electricity usage, a crucial step in supporting the stability of the national grid during this exceptionally difficult period.
