Police Officer Killed by Landmine During Evacuation Mission in Beryslav
The Death of Vyacheslav Hryhoriev
According to МВС: Senior Sergeant Vyacheslav Hryhoriev, a police officer who had served since 2003, was killed on September 10, 2025, when his vehicle struck a landmine during an evacuation mission in Beryslav. Since Russia's full-scale invasion, he had been working with evacuation teams in the Kherson region, an area that has seen intense fighting and remains heavily contaminated with explosives. At the time of his death, he held the rank of senior sergeant.
The Tragic Incident
On September 9, 2025, Hryhoriev's unit came under heavy artillery and FPV drone fire in Beryslav, forcing the law enforcement officers to shelter overnight. The following morning, September 10, as they resumed their mission, their vehicle detonated a Russian anti-vehicle mine. Vyacheslav Hryhoriev died instantly at the scene, while two of his colleagues sustained severe injuries.
He is survived by his wife and son. His death represents a profound loss for his family, colleagues, and the wider community.
The death of Vyacheslav Hryhoriev underscores the extreme dangers faced by Ukrainian police and emergency personnel while carrying out their duties in active combat zones.
Tragedies like this call into question the safety of both civilian and military operations in areas where hostilities continue. The situation in Kherson Oblast remains volatile, and many evacuation missions require exceptional caution and support from both the state and international organizations.
