Ternopil Police Body Cameras Now Activate Automatically When Officers Draw Their Weapons

Automatic Body Camera Activation Deployed in Ternopil Region

According to Главком: Ternopil Oblast has become the first region in Ukraine where police have introduced automatic activation of body cameras when service weapons are drawn. The new system relies on a specialized sensor mounted on an officer's holster, which communicates with the chest-mounted camera over a secure Bluetooth connection. Video recording starts instantly the moment an officer unholsters their pistol, and the live feed is transmitted directly to the Main Department's Situational Center, where it can be monitored in real time.

The cameras used in this system come with a built-in eSIM, enabling video transmission over mobile data networks. The technology has been rolled out for rapid response units in the Chortkiv District Police Department and for members of the KORD special operations unit.

When an officer removes their pistol from the holster, the sensor automatically triggers the body camera to begin recording the current incident. The video feed from the camera reaches the Main Department's Situational Center, where it can be viewed live.
