Fallen a year ago, defender Yevhen Grabovyi: the story of life and heroism

Every day at 9 o'clock, Ukrainians honor the memory of all those whose lives were taken by the Russo-Ukrainian war. Today we remember the hero - Yevhen Grabovyi.

Yevhen died in 2024 while carrying out a military mission in the Kharkiv region. For an entire year, his relatives would not know his fate until it was confirmed by DNA testing. The junior sergeant was born in Mykolaiv region, studied in Mykolaiv, and worked in Odesa, but when Russia invaded Ukraine, he decided to fight for his country.

“He was a true patriot - he tried to do everything in his power to bring our victory closer. He never waited for someone else to do something or change things for him. Yevhen went to war so that his relatives could live in a free Ukraine. He is an example for his son,” said the defender's wife.

Family and friends remember Yevhen as a kind and merciful man, ready to help at any moment. He repeatedly saved others' lives and always stood up for his comrades-in-arms.

Yevhen was buried on November 24, 2025, at the Alley of Heroes in the 'Nove' cemetery in the regional center. He is survived by a wife, a son, and parents.
