The Polish Armed Forces’ Operational Command announced these precautionary measures aimed at safeguarding neighboring areas. Ground-based air defense and radar surveillance units across Poland have reached full readiness, with command authorities maintaining forces prepared for immediate deployment.

Meanwhile, late on September 22, Romanian air defense detected an aerial target moving from Ukrainian territory toward its airspace. The Ministry of Defense’s radar systems tracked the object northeast of the Ukrainian city of Vylkove. As a precaution, authorities alerted residents in the northern part of Romania’s Tulcea county about a possible threat. To monitor the situation, two Romanian Air Force F-16 fighters were scrambled. By 00:36 on September 23, Romania lifted the air alert after confirming its airspace had not been breached.

Russian Attack on Ukraine and Neighboring Countries’ Reactions

During the night of September 22-23, Russia launched an assault on Ukraine deploying 161 drones of various types, including Shaheds, Gerbers, and jet-powered unmanned aerial vehicles. Ukrainian air defense forces successfully intercepted or neutralized 122 of these targets. The strikes impacted 18 locations across Ukraine. A spokesperson from Poland’s Armed Forces Operational Command stated:

“The Air Component Command has deployed all necessary forces and assets under its control. Ground air defense and radar reconnaissance units have achieved a state of full readiness.”

In addition to military measures, Poland is reinforcing civilian protection along its eastern border by planning the installation of over 1,000 automated warning sirens. Russia also targeted the "Orlivka" border crossing with Romania, temporarily halting its operation. During the night attack, a Russian drone crossed into Romanian territory and crashed near the Ukrainian border.
