Poland will revoke driving licenses for speeding over 50 km/h: new rules from 2026

Fines for speeding in Poland
Польща введе нові штрафи для водіїв, які перевищують швидкість більш ніж на 50 км/год.

New traffic rules in Poland

According to ХВИЛЯ: Poland is introducing new traffic rules effective March 2, 2026, which will entail the revocation of driving licenses for exceeding the speed limit by more than 50 km/h, not only in populated areas but also outside of them. This measure aims to enhance road safety considering the increasing number of violations.

According to the new rules, drivers who exceed the permitted speed by this amount risk losing their driving licenses for three months. In 2025, more than 2.5 million traffic violations were recorded in Poland, indicating a serious issue with compliance with speed regulations.

Prospects and consequences of the new rules

It should be noted that the new regulations do not apply to highways and expressways with separated traffic. If a driver gets behind the wheel again during the ban, their license will be permanently revoked. To regain their license, a driver must undergo the entire training and examination process again, complicating the situation for offenders.

These changes are part of the efforts by Polish authorities to reduce the number of road accidents and increase driver responsibility.

The introduction of new traffic rules in Poland underscores the seriousness of the problem with compliance with speed limits.

Given the significant number of violations, the country's authorities hope that harsher penalties will impact drivers' awareness and reduce the number of accidents. This decision also reflects a broader European trend towards enhancing road safety and reducing injuries caused by traffic accidents.
