In June 2026, the number of Ukrainians with temporary protection in Poland decreased by 6,335 people, to 961,170. This was the largest monthly decline among EU countries, although Poland remained second in the number of Ukrainians after Germany. Overall, their numbers in the European Union increased. Earlier, Inkorr reported on the number of Ukrainians under protection in the EU. InPoland reports this.

How many Ukrainians remained in Poland in June 2026

By the end of June, 961,170 citizens of Ukraine had temporary protection in Poland. Compared to May, the figure decreased by 0.7%, or 6,335 people. This was the largest reduction among EU countries for the month.

At the same time, Poland remained one of the main countries of refuge for Ukrainians. More people with temporary protection status were only in Germany - 1,286,230. In the Czech Republic, there were 390,810 such people by the end of June.

In most EU countries, the number of Ukrainians increased

In June, the number of people with temporary protection from Ukraine increased in 24 out of 27 EU countries. Germany saw an increase of 2,960 people, the Czech Republic - 3,835, and Italy - 4,115. The total number of protection recipients in the EU reached 4.41 million.

The figure reflects the number of people with valid status on a certain date, and not necessarily the number of those who physically left the country in the month. Statistics can be influenced by relocations, changes, or termination of status, as well as administrative data updates. Therefore, the mere reduction in registrations in Poland does not prove that all 6,335 people returned to Ukraine. Previously, we analyzed how many Ukrainians left Poland for other EU countries.

Poland retains second place in the number of Ukrainians

The data for June showed different movements in EU countries: in Poland, the number of people with temporary protection status decreased, while in most other states it increased. Despite the decline, Poland remained second in the number of Ukrainians after Germany.

Later, Eurostat published data for July: Poland accounted for 953,060 Ukrainians with temporary protection, 8,110 fewer than at the end of June. Germany continued to accept the largest number - 1,290,225 people. The new figures confirm that the reduction in the Polish figure continued into the following month.
