Statement from Poland’s Defense Minister

According to ХВИЛЯ: Poland’s Minister of National Defense, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, has called on Ukraine to exercise greater precision in choosing its strike targets. His remarks aim to reduce the risk of provoking Russia and to avoid intensifying the hybrid war against NATO. This appeal follows accusations from the Russian Federation that Ukraine allegedly plans to launch combat drones from Baltic states. In response, Russia threatened Latvia with retaliatory strikes.

Latvian authorities have denied these claims, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte dismissed them as absurd. Meanwhile, real tensions have escalated in the region:

  • On May 19, a drone was shot down in Estonian airspace for the first time,
  • On May 20, Lithuania declared an air alert after spotting an unmanned aircraft.

In Vilnius, schoolchildren were evacuated due to the potential threat.

The Need for a Strategic Approach

Kosiniak-Kamysz stressed that

‘Ukraine must-and this is also emphasized by military officials within NATO-define its targets much more accurately to avoid endangering the security of Alliance member states. This could fuel Russian provocations and be exploited by Moscow for propaganda, as well as to escalate the conflict and heighten hybrid warfare.’

These comments reflect growing concern in Poland and NATO over rising regional tensions.

The Polish minister’s statements highlight the critical need for Ukraine to adopt a strategic approach in its military operations, especially amid increasing friction between Russia and NATO countries. As a neighboring nation to Ukraine and a NATO member, Poland worries about unpredictable repercussions that could arise from misdirected strikes, which Russia might use to escalate the conflict. For this reason, close coordination between Ukraine and NATO remains essential to maintain stability in the region.

As the situation intensifies, concerns are rising about the potential for miscommunication and miscalculation in military operations. Recent allegations suggest that Moscow may be intentionally redirecting Ukrainian drones towards Baltic nations, which could further complicate the already fragile dynamics in the region. Understanding these developments is crucial for grasping the broader implications of the current conflict. For more details, see the accusations against Moscow.
