Near NATO's Border, Polish Fighters Intercept Russian Il-20M for Third Time in Five Days

According to Рубрика — Суспільство: Polish fighter aircraft intercepted a Russian Il-20M reconnaissance plane on the morning of 4 August, about 56 kilometres from Koszalin, northwest of the city in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship. Poland's Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz confirmed the event and said the ministry views the flight as yet another Russian provocation close to NATO's borders.

This was at least the third similar interception within five days. On 3 August, Polish jets scrambled to meet another Russian Il-20 above international Baltic Sea waters roughly 60 kilometres from Leba. That aircraft was flying without an approved flight plan and with its transponder off, though it did not enter Polish airspace. A separate encounter occurred on 31 July, when two Polish F-16s located a Russian reconnaissance aircraft about 40 kilometres north of Kolobrzeg.
