Sharp Price Surge for Greenhouse Tomatoes in Ukraine

According to ХВИЛЯ: In Ukraine, there is a sharp surge in prices for greenhouse tomatoes ahead of the New Year holidays, with a 20% increase compared to last week. As of the end of December 2025, the price of tomatoes is 80-100 hryvnias per kilogram, which is equivalent to $1.90-$2.37.

Reasons for Price Increases

The reasons for the price increases may be related to recently introduced anti-dumping duties on the import of fresh tomatoes from Turkey. Since July 2025, the price of Turkish tomatoes has been burdened with a 26.9% duty for a period of 5 years. Turkey accounts for 64.3% of all tomato imports into Ukraine based on the results of 10 months of 2025. These factors are likely affecting the increase in domestic prices for this product.

  • From January to October 2025, tomato imports increased by 4.3% to 81.82 thousand tons.
  • Expenditures on tomato purchases during this same period increased by 18.2%, reaching nearly $17 million.

This data indicates a revitalization of the tomato market, but the price increases raise concerns among consumers ahead of the New Year holidays.

The increase in tomato prices in Ukraine reflects broader economic trends, particularly the impact of customs restrictions on imports. Since Turkey is a key supplier, the introduction of anti-dumping duties may significantly affect the availability and cost of this product in the domestic market. Consumers should consider that the price increase may continue due to seasonal demand, especially during the holiday period.
