Nearly 61,000 Families Already Get Over UAH 308.4 Million in ‘School Backpack’ Payments
Payments Begin Under the ‘School Backpack’ Initiative
According to Пенсії (RSS): Families that signed up when the scheme first opened are now receiving support: more than 308.4 million hryvnias have been transferred to almost 61,000 households. The payout is part of the ‘School Backpack’ program run by Ukraine’s Ministry of Social Policy, which started making payments after parents of first-graders flooded in with applications.
Since the launch, over 99,000 applications have been submitted through the Pension Fund of Ukraine or the Diia app. Each family is entitled to 5,000 hryvnias. The ministry says the requests are being handled in batches rather than all at once.
“Applications are processed stage by stage, and every family will receive its 5,000 hryvnias.”
A Helping Hand for Families
For households with children, especially in a period of economic uncertainty, this money can make a real difference in covering the costs of getting a child ready for school. The initiative is a significant part of the government’s broader social support for parents.
By emphasizing that all requests will be reviewed, the Ministry of Social Policy signals a methodical approach to carrying out the program.
