Charity Auction Aims to Support Children Affected by War

According to Рубрика — Суспільство: More than 60 artists have contributed original artworks to a charity auction designed to aid children impacted by the conflicts in Ukraine, Sudan, and Gaza. This initiative is a collaboration between the humanitarian organization War Child UK and AOAP Projects, an art collective. The exhibition will take place at London’s Iconic Images Gallery from November 6 to 8, while the online auction will run from October 27 through November 12.

Notable Contributors and Their Impact

The auction features contributions from acclaimed artists including:

  • Jennifer Figgis
  • Alvaro Barrington
  • Joshua Donkor
  • Sani Kantarovski
  • Aleya Chapin
  • George Underwood

All proceeds will support War Child’s programs, which provide psychological care, education, protection, and emergency relief for children in Ukraine, Sudan, and Gaza. These efforts are critical in regions deeply affected by ongoing violence.

This auction is part of the ongoing Sound & Vision project, which previously drew inspiration from iconic musicians. In 2024, the artworks were influenced by David Bowie’s lyrics, and in 2025 by Kate Bush’s music. The last auction raised over £140,000. George Underwood, a returning participant known for designing album covers for David Bowie-including Hunky Dory and The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars-continues to lend his creative talents to this cause.

Sir Paul McCartney, a longtime supporter of War Child for over three decades, inspired this year’s artworks. Artists drew from a line in his song Band on the Run: "Well the rain exploded with mighty crash as we fall into the sun," using it as a creative foundation for their pieces.

"We are incredibly grateful to Paul McCartney for generously allowing us to use his lyrics from Band on the Run. It is inspiring to see some of the most exciting names in contemporary art once again channeling his music to create new works, raising vital funds to support War Child’s efforts in some of the world’s most dangerous regions." - Charlotte Nimmo, Head of Fundraising, War Child UK

In addition, an art series will be created from a flag damaged by Russian attacks in Kramatorsk. These pieces will be auctioned to raise funds for drone systems to support Ukraine’s Defense Forces. Further emphasizing global solidarity, Hollywood actress Sharon Stone is co-curating a photo project in Los Angeles focusing on the war in Ukraine, highlighting international commitment to defending the rights of children affected by conflict.

This charity auction exemplifies how art can play a powerful role in humanitarian efforts while showcasing worldwide unity in response to the devastating impact of war on children. The funds raised will provide essential resources and protection through War Child’s programs, which remain vital for vulnerable children living amid conflict.

In addition to the charity auction, art initiatives continue to play a vital role in raising awareness about the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. For instance, Sharon Stone's recent involvement as co-curator of a photo exhibit in Los Angeles highlights the power of visual storytelling in mobilizing support for those affected by war. Such efforts not only showcase artistic talent but also amplify the urgent need for humanitarian assistance in crisis regions.
