Address by Petro Poroshenko

According to 5 канал: Petro Poroshenko, the fifth president of Ukraine and leader of the 'European Solidarity' party, stated in his address that Russia has begun a new phase of war aimed at paralyzing Ukrainian cities, particularly Kyiv. He emphasized the need to provide the public with clear guidelines for living under air raid alerts. Poroshenko also expressed demands to the authorities aimed at ensuring security and supporting businesses during this difficult time.

Main demands of Poroshenko

Among Poroshenko's main demands are:

  • the implementation of war risk insurance for entrepreneurs;
  • allowing businesses to invest in private air defense systems;
  • ceasing pressure and inspections of businesses during the war.

He noted that it is unacceptable for the central authorities to be 'living off cashbacks' while Kyiv urgently needs funds for shelters, schools, and doctors.

Poroshenko also stressed the importance of ensuring the educational process. He emphasized that the school year must begin on September 1, and called for rules to be established for schools without shelters, as well as equipping underground bunkers with light, water, and communication. Calling for the return of 8 billion UAH in personal income tax (PIT) to the capital, Poroshenko noted that the seizure of these funds has forced the Kyiv City Council to conduct a budget sequestration.

In the field of energy security, Poroshenko urged the urgent establishment of backup power supplies for hospitals and water utilities, as well as the deployment of mobile generation. He emphasized that 'Kyiv needs a clear plan on how to live, and this plan should have been provided to people yesterday'.

We are the opposition. But we are definitely ready and willing to cooperate with the government and local authorities in legislating all necessary solutions, even up to creating a national rescue coalition and a government of national unity.

In conclusion of his address, Poroshenko thanked the rescuers who eliminate the consequences of enemy strikes, specifically noting that there was a recent attack on the Roshen factory facility, but the employees of the enterprise were in the shelter on time and were not harmed. Thus, Poroshenko emphasizes the importance of unity and efforts from all sides during this difficult time for Ukraine.

Poroshenko's statements reflect the growing challenges that Ukraine faces amid military actions and also highlight the importance of supporting businesses and ensuring the safety of citizens. His demands to the authorities are aimed at ensuring stability and readiness for new threats that may arise in conditions of war. This call to action could serve as a basis for further cooperation between the government and the opposition, which is essential for overcoming crises. Engaging resources for shelters and educational institutions, as well as ensuring energy security, is critically important for maintaining the life of cities amid military conflict.

In the context of escalating situations, Poroshenko also emphasized the importance of diplomatic efforts to achieve peace. His recent call for ceasefire negotiations indicates a desire to find a compromise in difficult conditions that could impact the further development of the conflict and stability in Ukraine.
