Julia Sokolovska’s Contribution to the Space Debate Europe 2026 Conference
According to Embajada de Ucrania en el Reino de España: On September 23, 2023, Ukraine’s Ambassador to Spain, Julia Sokolovska, took part in the Space Debate Europe 2026 conference held in Madrid. During the event, she spoke on a panel titled "Protecting Cultural Heritage Amid Conflict: A View from Space." Ambassador Sokolovska emphasized the critical role satellite technology plays in documenting damage to cultural landmarks, illegal archaeological activities, and other violations occurring in the temporarily occupied regions of Ukraine.
She pointed out that Ukrainian authorities and international missions currently lack physical access to these territories, which complicates efforts to monitor and protect cultural sites. Ambassador Sokolovska stressed the importance of collaboration between Ukraine, Spain, the European Space Agency, UNESCO, and other European partners to leverage satellite data for effective monitoring and preservation.
