Moscow Region Fire and Strikes on Plants in Ufa and Penza: New Attacks Target Russian Infrastructure
Fire at a Power Substation in Lyubertsy Causes Blackouts
According to Главком: On July 1, a fire broke out at a power substation in Lyubertsy, located just outside Moscow. The incident led to electricity outages across Lyubertsy, Kotelniki, Tomilino, and parts of Dzerzhinsky. The substation is operated by Rosseti Moscow Region. Mikhail Sobolev, head of the Kotelniki urban district, stated:
“Due to the accident at the Rosseti Moscow Region substation, some areas of the district have lost power. An emergency crew is currently on site.” - Mikhail Sobolev
The Lyubertsy administration noted: “We are recording power outages in various parts of Lyubertsy, Tomilino, and parts of Dzerzhinsky. Rosseti specialists are investigating the causes and switching to a backup line.”
Strikes on Strategic Facilities
On the same day, Ukrainian defense forces carried out attacks on an oil refinery in Ufa, a military plant in Penza, and the Saki military airfield in Crimea. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented:
“For the second time, our sanctions responses to Russia’s prolongation of the war have reached the oil refinery in Ufa, one of Russia’s largest lubricant producers. The distance is over 1,300 kilometers from the front line.” - Volodymyr Zelenskyy
Additionally, five drone strikes were confirmed to have hit hangars at the Saki airfield, underscoring the Security Service of Ukraine’s active role in combat operations.
The fire at the Lyubertsy power substation, combined with the simultaneous strikes on strategic Russian sites, highlights the tense situation amid the ongoing military conflict between Ukraine and Russia. Power disruptions can have severe consequences for local residents, while Ukraine’s ability to hit critical enemy infrastructure demonstrates the conflict’s expansion across multiple fronts. This may also influence future decisions and strategies for both sides in the war.
The recent escalation in attacks on Russian infrastructure, including the fire at the Lyubertsy power substation, coincides with significant strikes on key sites such as an oil refinery in Ufa and a military facility in Penza. This pattern of targeted operations reflects the ongoing military strategies employed by Ukrainian forces.
