Kazakhstan is planning to create an alternative Orthodox church to avoid control from the Kremlin. The initiative is led by Turarbek Kusaïnov, who has reached out to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine for support.The establishment of a religious association is planned, along with a request to Constantinople for a blessing to create a Constantinople exarchate in Kazakhstan. The initiative leader believes that this will help free Kazakh Orthodoxy from Russian influence.Despite opposition from the Russian Orthodox Church, activists hope for success and are confident that the new church will be independent from the Russian church and political influence from Russia.
