According to Главком: Valeriy Elkinson, President of BC Zaporizhzhia, has confirmed that the team will appoint a new head coach for the 2026/27 season. Current head coach Dmytro Shchyglynskyi will remain with the club in an assistant role. Elkinson explained that the decision was made to elevate the team’s performance and compete for medals, even as Shchyglynskyi continues his long tenure at the club. This move reflects the club's ambition to strengthen its position in Ukrainian basketball.

“I expect Dmytro (Shchyglynskyi) to stay on the coaching staff. He accomplished the goals set for this season. But we really want to improve our game and fight for medals, so there will be a new head coach. Dmytro will serve as an assistant. He has been with the club for many years, and we count on him,” said Valeriy Elkinson.

During the 2022/23 season, BC Zaporizhzhia finished sixth in the regular championship with a record of 10 wins and 14 losses. In the first round of the playoffs, the Zaporizhzhia team lost to Kyiv-Basket 0-2, with Kyiv-Basket eventually becoming the Super League finalist.

Ukraine National Basketball Team Matches

Alongside the coaching changes at BC Zaporizhzhia, the Ukrainian national basketball team competed in qualification matches for the 2027 FIBA World Cup. In the fourth round of qualifiers, Ukraine lost to Spain 78:64. The third round also ended in defeat against Spain, this time 66:86. However, in the second round, the Ukrainian team secured a victory over Denmark, winning 88:71.
