Mykhailo Yasynskyi Shares His Take on Ukraine's Entertainment Industry

According to Главком: In a recent interview with Glavcom, producer Mykhailo Yasynskyi discussed the current state of Ukrainian show business and its leading stars, including Nadia Dorofeeva, Olya Polyakova, and Svetlana Loboda. He pointed out that identifying the country's number one singer has become more challenging due to shifts within the industry. For instance, Yasynskyi described Dorofeeva as a highly productive artist but noted that her audience isn't broad enough to fit traditional definitions of a top-tier performer. This reflects how evolving metrics now complicate rankings in a market where audience reach and engagement patterns have changed.

The Diverging Paths of Loboda and Polyakova

According to Yasynskyi, Svetlana Loboda made a strategic decision back in 2017 to focus on a different market. Although she left the Russian market in 2022, she has not been able to return to Ukraine. Today, she primarily works in Europe, performing mostly in Russian for a mixed audience. Yasynskyi stated that

“It's hard to call Loboda a representative of the Ukrainian show business”

since her career developed in a different, more established market.

In contrast, Olya Polyakova remained in Ukraine and cut ties with Russia. Yasynskyi emphasized that

“This is completely incomparable to Polyakova. She was and remains a figure in Ukrainian show business, her audience is Ukrainian, and she is based in Ukraine.”

He further explained that today's entertainment industry demands new ways of evaluating artists, as communication channels between performers and listeners, as well as monetization methods, have fundamentally shifted.
