Weather Outlook for January 23: Snowfall Blankets Ukraine as Frost Eases
Ukraine's Weather Forecast for January 23
According to Главком: The Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center forecasts a shift in weather patterns for January 23, with cloudy skies and light snowfall expected across most of the country. The bitter cold is beginning to retreat, replaced by warmer, more humid air moving in from the Black Sea and the Balkans. An easterly wind of 5-10 meters per second is anticipated, alongside falling atmospheric pressure.
This influx of milder air will lead to a noticeable rise in temperatures nationwide. In the northeastern regions, expect lows of -10°C to -15°C at night and highs of -5°C to -10°C during the day. Southern areas, including Zakarpattia and Prykarpattia, will see milder conditions with nighttime temperatures ranging from -2°C to -7°C and daytime readings from -3°C to +2°C.
Temperature Conditions Across Ukraine
For the rest of Ukraine, nighttime temperatures will generally be between -6°C and -11°C, with daytime highs of -2°C to -7°C. In the Kyiv region and the capital itself, similar ranges are forecast: -6°C to -11°C at night and -2°C to -7°C in the day. Specifically in Kyiv, temperatures will be around -7°C to -9°C at night and -5°C to -7°C during the day. Residents should be prepared for possible light snow and patches of icy glaze, which could create hazardous conditions for drivers and pedestrians.
This transition signals the beginning of a milder winter phase, which could benefit agriculture, particularly in southern regions. The light snow may also help improve soil moisture levels. Overall, the new temperature regime and precipitation are important factors for planning winter activities in Ukraine. Such January thaws are not uncommon and can provide temporary relief from the harshest winter cold.
