Late January Weather Forecast

According to Главком: A warming trend is expected to begin across the region on Monday, January 26, according to the latest forecast. Meteorologist Natalia Didenko notes that a more typical European winter pattern-wet, windy, and mild-will return. However, a separate hazard warning has been issued for Thursday, January 22, with an elevated danger level declared for a number of Ukrainian oblasts. This forecast is particularly relevant for travelers and residents navigating winter conditions.

Forecast for Friday, January 23

On Friday, January 23, snow and wet snow are forecast for western, southern, northern, and central Ukraine. Meanwhile, the east and northeast are expected to remain dry. Winds across the country will be predominantly southeasterly, moderate, and occasionally gusty.

  • Overnight temperatures on January 23 will range from -6 to -12 degrees Celsius, dropping to -14 degrees in the north.
  • Daytime highs will be between -2 and -7 degrees, while the south will see temperatures of -1 to +2 degrees, reaching up to +5 degrees in Crimea.

In Kyiv on January 23, cloudy conditions are expected with a chance of light snow and windy weather. Temperatures in the capital will hold between -5 and -7 degrees. This follows a foggy morning on January 22 in western, northern, and southern oblasts, where visibility was reduced to 300-500 meters, triggering a first-level (yellow) hazard warning.

For January 22, weather across Ukraine is expected to be largely dry, with only possible snow in the southwest during the day and rain in the Odesa region. Additionally, overnight and morning fog is forecast in some western and southern areas, with icy patches possible on roads in places.

The anticipated late-January thaw could benefit agriculture, as reduced frost may improve conditions for crops. However, the warnings for fog and ice underscore the need for caution on the roads, which may impact transportation. Meteorologists advise drivers to be especially vigilant under conditions of poor visibility and potential icy pavement.
