Fatal Crash in Lviv District
According to Главком: A 14-year-old girl was killed and her 9-year-old brother was hospitalized in serious condition after being struck on a pedestrian crossing in the Lviv district. The incident has led to a prosecutor being formally notified of suspicion in the case. This tragic event highlights ongoing concerns about road safety in Ukraine, particularly for vulnerable pedestrians.
The accident occurred around 7:00 PM on February 24 in the village of Smerekiy on the M-09 highway. The driver of the Skoda vehicle was 25-year-old prosecutor Ruslan Kulchytskyi of the Sheptytskyi District Prosecutor's Office. On February 25, he was officially notified of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Procedural leadership in the criminal proceedings has been assigned to the General Inspectorate of the Office of the Prosecutor General (OGP). A representative from the OGP's Department for the Protection of Children's Interests and Counteraction to Domestic Violence has been included in the prosecutor's group.
Current Status of the Case
Necessary investigative actions are currently underway, and a number of forensic examinations have been ordered. Authorities are deciding on a measure of restraint for the suspect and his possible suspension from duty. Given the tragedy, which claimed the life of a minor girl and left her younger brother a victim, the investigation is emphasizing the need to ensure objectivity and impartiality.
This tragedy has caused widespread public outcry, as it involves the death of a child and severe consequences for her family.
The importance of the investigation underscores the necessity of adhering to road safety, especially in areas where pedestrians cross. The criminal proceedings against a prosecutor also raise questions about public trust in the legal system and its ability to ensure justice in such cases.
