Playful Learning with a Serious Message

According to МВС: Ukraine's State Emergency Service (DSNS) is best known for rescue operations, but its psychologists also lead preventive work with children. In the Ternopil region, they held a game-based session to foster communication, mutual support, and anti-bullying awareness, as part of the All-Ukrainian mental-health initiative 'How Are You?' created by First Lady Olena Zelenska.

Games, Teamwork, and Support

The kids tested how messages get distorted in 'broken telephone' and learned to negotiate during the team competition 'Friendly Island.' They also made their own 'support palms' and reviewed bullying situations, while becoming more attentive to peers who might need help.

The event contributes to broader efforts to improve children's mental health in Ukraine under current challenges. The 'How Are You?' program is meant to teach more than safety and support basics-it encourages children to take responsibility for themselves and those around them, a skill that becomes increasingly vital as school bullying levels rise.

As initiatives like the 'How Are You?' program aim to enhance children's mental well-being, it is equally important for parents to understand how to safeguard their children from potential risks. The recent collaboration between UNICEF and Ukraine's Interior Ministry provides valuable insights for families on preventing children from running away, a concern that can often stem from bullying and emotional distress. By addressing these challenges together, we can foster a safer environment for our youth.
