Ukrainian president voices alarm over potential Russian mobilization

According to ХВИЛЯ: In an interview with Sky News, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy raised concerns about a possible fresh wave of military conscription in Russia following the State Duma elections scheduled for September 21. The discussion comes as Western allies continue to monitor Russia's military preparations. According to Zelenskyy, the Kremlin intends to call up between 300,000 and 500,000 individuals starting in early October. He stressed that Putin has no plans to end the war and will not openly announce a mobilization due to fears of a public backlash.

Zelenskyy indicated that Ukrainian intelligence has evidence of the Kremlin’s intention to ramp up conscription, but he questioned whether Russia could quickly train new troops.

“He won’t be able to train these people quickly. That means he will send poorly prepared soldiers to the battlefield, which in turn means heavy losses,” the president remarked.

Ukraine’s defense strategy and partnership with the United Kingdom

During the same interview, Zelenskyy also addressed Ukraine’s defense policy. He revealed that Ukraine is acquiring PAC-2 and PAC-3 missiles from the United States using funds obtained from Europe. He noted that sanctions aimed at Russia’s military production have been inadequate, allowing Moscow to increase its output of ballistic missiles.

“Ukraine’s domestic production enables us to shoot down drones and much else, but we cannot intercept ballistic missiles,” he pointed out.

Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of collaboration with the United Kingdom. After a telephone conversation with the newly appointed British prime minister, he expressed a desire to construct a large-scale factory in the UK based on cutting-edge technology. For this project to succeed, the president highlighted three essential components:

• technology
• training

“I want to build a large factory in the United Kingdom using new technologies and share them with our partners. We are ready to pass on all our experience to the UK,” Zelenskyy stated.

Key areas of cooperation between Ukraine and the UK include the production of drones-particularly naval drones-and the development of an anti-ballistic missile defense system, which the UK currently lacks. The president also mentioned British interest in Ukrainian drone technology, underscoring the value of joint efforts in defense.

Zelenskyy’s expressed concerns about a possible escalation of Russian mobilization highlight that the front-line situation remains tense, and the Kremlin’s military plans could threaten Ukraine’s security. The defense collaboration with the UK-especially in drone manufacturing and anti-ballistic systems-reflects a strategic partnership and the need to prepare for emerging challenges.
