NUS reform: starting from 2027, Ukrainian students will study for 12 years
According to ХВИЛЯ: Ukraine is transitioning to a 12-year cycle of secondary education as part of the New Ukrainian School reform. The full transition of high school to a three-year format in lyceums is scheduled for 2027. From September 1, 2027, the first cohort of NUS students will move to the 10th grade of the three-year senior school, allowing students to complete their education in 12 years.
The New Ukrainian School reform has been ongoing since 2018. During this time, all first-graders have started learning under the NUS standard. It is important to note that the age of admission to the first grade is not being revised: a child can start school at 6 or 7 years old.
All children who will enter 10th grade in 2027 will study for 12 years.

She also emphasized that 'the state will definitely not regulate this', which opens up opportunities for flexibility in the educational process. Thus, the NUS reform continues to be implemented with the aim of improving the quality of education in Ukraine.
The introduction of a 12-year learning cycle aligns with global trends in education, where the duration of secondary education often lasts 12 years. This may help increase the competitiveness of Ukrainian graduates on an international level. The NUS reform is part of a broader strategy for the development of education in Ukraine, aimed at modernizing curricula and improving the quality of teaching.
