President Trump's Approval Rating Continues to Slide

According to Главком: According to a Pew Research Center poll released in late January, U.S. President Donald Trump's approval rating has fallen to 37%, a three-point drop since last autumn. This means 63% of those surveyed disapprove of his performance in office. While support among Republicans stands at 73%, this figure has also declined since September. Now, one in four Republicans expresses dissatisfaction with the president's actions, a significant increase from a year ago.

American Public Opinion Analysis

Analysis of American opinion reveals that half of respondents believe the Trump administration's actions since his return to office have been worse than they expected. Only 21% feel his actual policies have exceeded their expectations, while about a quarter noted events have unfolded as they predicted. Just 27% of those polled support all or most of Trump's policies, an eight-point drop from the start of his second term. This decline in support is particularly notable given the traditionally high loyalty of a president's party base during a term.

The primary reason for the drop in support for Trump's policies is waning enthusiasm among Republicans. There has also been a recorded decline in trust regarding the president's personal qualities. A significant portion of Americans have expressed doubts about his leadership abilities and his mental and physical readiness for the office. Trust that Trump respects U.S. democratic values, can select competent advisors, and acts ethically while in office has also diminished.

Specifically, in February 2025, 55% of Republicans stated they were very or extremely confident in Trump's ethical behavior at the start of his second term. Now, only 42% of Republicans hold that view, indicating an eight-percentage-point drop in trust regarding his ethics. A year ago, the level of trust in Trump's ethical conduct was 29%, and it has since fallen another eight points.

These data point to significant shifts in American sentiment toward the president, which could impact his future political career. Among those voicing discontent are public figures like actress and director Kristen Stewart, who has contemplated moving to another country due to Trump's policies.

The decline in Donald Trump's approval rating signals growing voter dissatisfaction, which could have serious consequences for his political trajectory. The erosion of support among Republicans suggests even the party's traditional base is beginning to question his leadership. This may lead to increased competition within the party and changes in strategy for future elections.
