Russia Proposes July 6 Ceasefire in Kostiantynivka, but Ukraine Denies City Has Fallen
Kostiantynivka: Claims and Counterclaims
According to Главком: Russia’s Defense Ministry has proposed a temporary halt to hostilities in Kostiantynivka, located in Donetsk Oblast, to allow for a humanitarian operation focused on recovering fallen soldiers’ remains. According to the ministry’s statement, Moscow is ready to carry out this initiative on July 6, with a ceasefire in the city from 12:00 to 18:00 Kyiv time. The proposal was first broadcast through Russian state-aligned media outlets.
Ukraine, however, firmly rejects Kremlin assertions that Kostiantynivka has been captured. Fighters from the National Police of Ukraine’s Joint Assault Brigade 'Liut' have stressed that the city remains under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“Screw your 'great victory'! Today the Kremlin dictator and his generals decided to sell Russians another lie about fully capturing Kostiantynivka. This is false!” – fighters of the 'Liut' brigade.
They also noted that combat is ongoing on the approaches to the city, adding that 'the enemy is trying with all its might to seize Kostiantynivka.'
Ukraine’s Position and Russian Statements
During a meeting with Russian military officials, Vladimir Putin claimed that Russian forces had taken control of the city, but this assertion remains unverified. According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Kostiantynivka is still held by Ukraine’s defense forces. Major Andriy Kovalev, a spokesperson for the General Staff, confirmed: 'Kostiantynivka remains under the control of Ukraine’s defense forces. Units and subunits of the 19th Army Corps of the Eastern Operational-Strategic Grouping continue to conduct defensive operations at designated positions within the settlement and on its outskirts.'
Russian troops are currently conducting offensive operations near Ivanopillia, Illinivka, and Rusyni Yar. According to DeepState, the front line runs several kilometers from Kostiantynivka, with fighting still underway. The claim of the city’s capture, as voiced by Putin, does not reflect reality, and Ukrainian forces continue to carry out their missions in the region.
As a result, the situation in Kostiantynivka remains tense, with active combat persisting despite Russia’s offer of a humanitarian pause.
The standoff in Kostiantynivka mirrors the broader volatility along the front lines, where both sides are engaged in fierce fighting. Russia’s proposal for a humanitarian operation may initially appear as an attempt to de-escalate, but Ukraine dismisses any suggestion that it has lost control of the city. This underscores the role of information warfare in the conflict, as each side seeks to promote a narrative that serves its strategic interests. How events unfold here could shape the broader tactics of both parties in the region.
As the situation in Kostiantynivka continues to evolve, the credibility of Russian claims regarding the city's control is increasingly questioned.
