The Urgent Need for Protective Shelters in Rivne

According to Radiotrek — Світ: In Rivne, the conversation about safeguarding residents during air raids has intensified, focusing on the deployment of specialized shelters known as 'Snail' and 'Bronestop.' These structures are locally produced, with the 'Snail' model having successfully passed rigorous testing and certification to guarantee protection against serious impacts, as confirmed by Galina Kulchynska.

Approximately three years ago, a metal 'Snail' shelter was installed near the city’s central restroom as a demonstration of its protective capabilities. 'It stood there for about six months as a showcase for Rivne’s residents,' Kulchynska recalled. Despite this, the city has yet to purchase any of these shelters, even though other Ukrainian cities and regions have actively incorporated 'Snail' shelters into their civil defense strategies.

Advanced Local Solutions for Civil Defense

Currently, the only local manufacturer in Ukraine produces an upgraded mobile shelter called the 'Bronestop,' designed to accommodate up to 15 people. Kulchynska emphasized that if municipal funds previously allocated for projects such as a public toilet, a dog park, and 3 million hryvnias spent on leaf cleanup had instead been directed toward acquiring 'Bronestop' shelters, the city could have installed dozens across Rivne. These shelters could provide essential protection for individuals caught in open areas during rapid attacks by high-speed rocket projectiles, which can travel from Klevan to Rivne in just two minutes.

This situation highlights the pressing need for Rivne to respond decisively, as protecting citizens during aerial attacks remains a critical concern.

The debate around installing shelters like 'Snail' and 'Bronestop' underscores the importance of enhancing public safety amid ongoing air threats. Implementing these proven protective systems would significantly improve the city’s preparedness and citizens’ security. The current allocation of resources towards less urgent projects reveals a disconnect between municipal spending priorities and the real dangers faced by the population.
