Specialists to be Evacuated from Bushehr Nuclear Power Station

According to Главком: Russia's state nuclear corporation, Rosatom, has initiated preparations to evacuate more than 200 specialists from the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant in Iran due to escalating hostilities. According to reports, Moscow intends to leave only a limited number of volunteers on-site to maintain critical reactor operations. The Russian side also plans to appeal to the United States and Israel for a temporary ceasefire in the vicinity of the power station. This move highlights the direct impact of regional conflict on international nuclear projects.

Concerns Over Nuclear Safety

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has not confirmed any damage to the reactor or radiation leaks. The Bushehr plant, which commenced operations in 2011, features a water-water power reactor with a capacity of 1000 MW. Most recently, on March 25, a new strike occurred near the facility, with Iranian authorities reporting that a projectile hit the area of the nuclear site in the city of Bushehr.

I have been very clear and consistent in my reporting on Iran's nuclear program: while there is no evidence that Iran is building a nuclear bomb, its large stockpile of uranium enriched to near-weapons grade, along with its refusal to grant my inspectors full access, is a matter of serious concern.

Rafael Grossi, Director General of the IAEA

The planned evacuation of Russian personnel underscores the growing safety risks associated with military action in Iran. The IAEA's position remains that, despite the escalation, no immediate threat to nuclear safety has been recorded. However, the tense situation is being closely monitored by the international community, as any incident could have significant implications for regional stability and global nuclear security.

As tensions escalate around the Bushehr facility, recent reports indicate a projectile strike in the vicinity, raising further concerns about the safety of the nuclear site.
