Moscow Strikes Ukrainian Fuel Stations in Retaliation for Logistics Attacks
Attacks on Gas Stations Across Ukraine
According to Главком: Russian forces have intensified strikes on gas stations in frontline regions of Ukraine, a direct response to Ukrainian military operations targeting Russian supply chains. This was confirmed by Serhiy Flesh Beskrestnov, an advisor to Ukraine’s defense minister. The attacks have been reported in the Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, and Sumy oblasts.
Timeline of the Strikes
- On June 27, a Russian drone struck a gas station in Zaporizhzhia.
- On June 26, gas stations were hit in the city of Sumy.
- On June 25, the Russian army attacked a gas station in the Zarichny district of Sumy, injuring four civilians.
- On June 24, Naftogaz gas stations across three regions came under fire, along with a gas production site in Poltava region, where one person suffered severe injuries.
Serhiy Flesh Beskrestnov stated:
“In response to our strikes on their logistics hubs, the enemy has decided to destroy all our frontline gas stations. They are using Shahed drones as well as other fixed-wing and rotary-wing UAVs.”
He emphasized that
“civilian gas stations have no impact on military fuel supplies, so the real goal here is to terrorize the civilian population.”
According to him, Ukrainians will find ways to manage fuel logistics: “Will residents run out of gasoline? Of course not. We are Ukrainians-we will figure out how to organize fuel logistics, distribution, and sales, and keep refueling.”
These attacks reflect an escalation in the conflict and Russia’s retaliation for Ukrainian efforts to disrupt enemy supply routes. Because the strikes primarily target civilian infrastructure, their purpose may be as much psychological as military-instilling fear among the population. Still, Ukraine’s resilience and capacity for adaptation suggest it will continue to fight for control over resources and infrastructure.
As the conflict escalates, recent attacks highlight the ongoing military exchanges between Ukraine and Russia. In a notable operation, Ukrainian forces targeted an Iskander missile plant in Volgograd, showcasing their strategic capabilities.
