Ukraine's Energy Infrastructure Targeted in New Wave of Attacks

According to Главком: On the morning of February 23, Russian forces launched a series of strikes against Ukraine's energy infrastructure, just before the anniversary of the full-scale invasion. The attacks resulted in widespread power outages for consumers across four regions: Odesa, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Sumy.

Ukraine's Ministry of Energy reported that most regions have been forced to implement rolling blackouts, while industrial enterprises are operating under strict power consumption limits. Emergency power cuts were also introduced in several areas.

Casualties and Recovery Efforts

In the Kharkiv region, an energy sector worker was wounded during the attack and is currently receiving medical assistance. In the capital, Kyiv, more than 200 repair crews are working to restore heat and electricity supplies.

The State Energy Supervision Authority has been instructed to conduct inspections regarding the outages caused by the strikes.

These attacks on critical energy infrastructure underscore the persistent threat that Russian aggression poses to Ukraine's basic civilian lifelines.

With rising tensions as the invasion's anniversary approaches, such actions appear to be part of a broader strategy to destabilize the country. The restoration of power, which Ukrainian energy workers are actively pursuing, remains critically important for supporting both the civilian population and industry during this difficult period. These strikes are a grim reminder of Russia's winter campaign last year, which similarly targeted heating and electricity systems.
