Russia's Military Campaign Against Ukraine

According to Главком: EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Maternova has condemned Russia's continued strikes with drones and missiles, which come even as discussions of a potential ceasefire are underway. She stressed that the latest attacks prove that no real 'ceasefire' exists and that Russia is disregarding any agreements. This escalation occurs amidst a harsh winter, severely compounding the humanitarian crisis for Ukrainian civilians.

In a single night, Russian forces launched 90 drones, with 14 striking nine different targets. The capital, Kyiv, is enduring temperatures as low as minus 14 degrees Celsius, while hundreds of thousands of residents have now spent nearly a month without reliable heating or electricity. Throughout January, Russia has deployed a massive arsenal, including:

  • over 6,000 attack drones,
  • approximately 5,500 guided aerial bombs,
  • 158 missiles of various types.

Over the past day, 338 combat engagements were recorded on the front lines.

Humanitarian Aid for Ukraine

In response to the critical infrastructure damage, the European Union delivered more than 400 generators to Ukraine last week, with an additional 500 currently en route. This aid is vital for civilians suffering the consequences of the relentless attacks. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy continues to emphasize the urgent need for sustained international support during this difficult period.

The ongoing situation underscores the critical importance of humanitarian assistance in Ukraine, particularly amid freezing winter conditions and sustained assaults. Access to generators has become a lifeline for survival in cities crippled by power outages. The continuation of hostilities highlights the profound instability in the region and severely complicates any prospects for meaningful peace negotiations.
